Tomorrow I am booked in for a cut and colour. A normal occurrence in my hair care routine. However not only am I growing my hair, I also need to pick a new hair colour.
To be fair there is nothing wrong with the colours I normally have. In summer I tend to go a little lighter and in winter a little darker. But this time I have been told by my friend/hairdresser that I need to consider going for a different colour. Why? Because at 31 my brunette hair is more than giving way to grey.
I should be relieved. My mum's hair went completely white by the time she was my age (she blames my sister and I!). I have my dad to thank for keeping my hair its natural colour for this long, unless he is using Just For Men! I have always had a few grey hairs since I was in my teens, which is what made me start dying my hair at college and I have continued to do since. But as I am growing my hair, and leaving the time between appointments longer, the amount of grey is more visible and not just by length. There is certainly more than the occasional natural highlight!
I'm not too sure how I feel about going a lighter colour. I was blonde as a young child and I tried going blonde when I was 20, but I'm not sure it really suited me. However my grey is not going to go away and I don't want to be one of those people who dye their hair well into their 60's or beyond (think Tom Jones!). I need to start making that change and I trust my friend! Colour book at the ready!
I guess when all is said and done, I can get her to dye it back if I really don't like it!
